چکیده

The development of different energy balance models has allowed users to choose a model based on its suitability in a region. We compared four commonly used models—Mapping EvapoTranspiration at high Resolution with Internalized Calibration (METRIC) model, Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL) model, Surface Energy Balance System (SEBS) model, and the Operational Simplified Surface Energy Balance (SSEBop) model—using Landsat images to estimate evapotranspiration (ET) in the Midwestern United States. Our models validation using three AmeriFlux cropland sites at Mead, Nebraska, showed that all four models captured the spatial and temporal variation of ET reasonably well with an R2 of more than 0.81. Both the METRIC and SSEBop models showed a low root mean square error (<0.93 mm ̈day ́1) and a high Nash–Sutcliffe coefficient of efficiency (>0.80), whereas the SEBAL and SEBS models resulted in relatively higher bias for estimating daily ET. The empirical equation of daily average net radiation used in the SEBAL and SEBS models for upscaling instantaneous ET to daily ET resulted in underestimation of daily ET, particularly when the daily average net radiation was more than 100 W ̈m ́2. Estimated daily ET for both cropland and grassland had some degree of linearity with METRIC, SEBAL, and SEBS, but linearity was stronger for evaporative fraction. Thus, these ET models have strengths and limitations for applications in water resource management.

Comparison of different empirical methods for estimating ddaily reference evapotranspiration in the humid cold climate (case study: Borujen, Shahrekord, Koohrang and Lordegan)

The proposed method for calculation of potential evapotranspiration is Penman-Monteith FAO method, but there are other methods that require less meteorological data but estimates close to the FAO Penman-Monteith method in different climatic conditions.  Performance evaluation of these methods on the same basis is prerequisite for selecting an alternative approach in accordance with available da...

Assessing Experimental and Intelligent Models in Estimating Reference Evapotranspiration

Introduction: As the most important element in the hydrologic cycle which depends on climate variables such as near-ground wind speed, air temperature, solar radiation, and relative humidity,  reference evapotranspiration (ET0) is normally computed through a variety of methods, each of which requires different and in some cases extensive data that are unavailable in many circumstances, especial...

Comparison of M5 Model Tree and Artificial Neural Network for Estimating Potential Evapotranspiration in Semi-arid Climates

Evaporation is a fundamental parameter in the hydrological cycle. This study examines the performance of M5model tree and artificial neural network (ANN) models in estimating potential evapotranspiration calculated byPenman- Monteith and Hargreaves- Samani equations. Daily weather data from two meteorological stations in asemi-arid climate of Iran, namely Kerman and Zahedan, were collected duri...

Evaluation of ANFIS and ANFIS-PSO Models for Estimating Hydraulic Jump Characteristics

In this study accuracy of the ANFIS and ANFIS-PSO models to estimate hydraulic jump characteristics including sequence depth ratio, the jump length, the roller length ratio, and relative energy loss was evaluated in stilling basin versus laboratory results. The mentioned characteristics were measured in the stilling basin with a rectangular cross-section with four different adverse slopes, four...
